August 30

Friday August 30

This morning Chad, Charlie and Diana's oldest son who is a professional basketball player, came to visit, and Diana made a wonderful big breakfast complete with eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and fruit.

Chad is the typical son. He came into the house, hugged the dog, opened and leaned into the refrigerator to see what was there, lol! Seriously he did hug his parents first.

Sounds like his schedule is not quite so busy now.  He played the summer season with the Winnipeg Sea Bears and they just finished.(professional basketball team). But he was interested in what we were doing and how our holiday was going too, which was really sweet.  Funny to see Diana’s little dog jump up into Chad’s arms for a cuddle! (Chad is very tall, 6’11”, I think)

Diana loaded us up with sandwiches, fruit, and a g-f banana loaf for our trip home, and we set off for Beausejour to see Margaret and Phil.

Their house is about the size of ours.  It’s cosy and totally reminds me of Tante Ad’s home.  Margaret and Phil are planning to put their name in for a senior’s residence. Not sure if it’s an apartment or a community like Mom and Dad’s in Grand Bend.  But for right now, their lives are in a bit of limbo because of Phil’s health issues and the treatment. They both need our prayers right now.

We just stayed a few hours for tea and a chat, then back on the road again!

Because we had made a bit of a detour to Beausejour, we ended up driving some dusty country roads to get back onto the Trans Canada.  Interesting scenery, with the trees and lakes increasing, the closer we got to Ontario.  We drove past Whitemouth, the area Margaret and Phil lived the last time we visited them at home…. 15 years ago…. or more.  And we drove through the Whiteshell Provincial Park where they lived before Rebecca was born. I must say though, that’s likely the last time those roads were fixed - they are in pretty rough shape.

We decided that we would have an easy day so we found a cute little motel on the outskirts of Kenora: Nature’s Inn.  The girl at the front desk, Jenna, gave us maps for walking down to the lake (Lake of the Woods) and to get to some good restaurants nearby.

The lake is really beautiful. We walked right down to the water, and sat for a while on someone’s dock.  We had asked the owner for permission and he came and chatted with us for a bit. I must say though that there were some impressive hills to climb to get there, and believe it or not, even more steep hills going back!! (is that even possible?) We were both glad to see the motel when we crested the last one!!

So, we followed the map to the restaurant and almost didn’t find it. There was no sign that actually said that it was a restaurant.  Anyway, it turned out to be VERY expensive. Our first clue really should have been the Porsche parked just up from our car.  We shared a salad, an entree (1/2 chicken) and a single glass of wine and it was still $69!!!! Sigh, but this “is” our holiday, so we tried not to freak out too much, lol!

No free breakfast tomorrow so we’ll get to try out our egg cooker and toaster in the morning.  That’s it for now, g’nite all.
